There are two very distinct but intertwined paths that have landed Jessica in Japan. The first is her love of travel and exploring anything new. The second is a diligent approach to career advancement. Both were developed in her four years at UVM. If anyone was ready to take on the world upon graduating, it was Jessica. And so she did in the spring of 1998. |
Young Alumni NewsSeven Days Story on Young Vermont Entrepreneurs Features UVM AlumsThere was much ado this legislative session about Vermont's impending demographic disaster -- the convergence of aging back-to-the-landers and the out-of-state exodus of young Vermonters. Jim Douglas sounded the alarm in his January "State of the State" address: "Already, the flight of young people due to high expenses and limited opportunities has helped make Vermont the second-oldest state in the country," he warned. "In just the next decade there will be 15 percent fewer Vermonters under the age of 20 than there were just five years ago." The governor spent the next five months fighting for college scholarship money to motivate local kids to stay here for school and beyond... Catamount Connection at the World CupThe World Cup, soccer's biggest event, begins June 9 and runs through July 9 in Germany. Former Catamount men's soccer player Ryan Maxfield '00, a native of Rutland, Vermont, will have an opportunity to experience the action in a unique way. Maxfield is the equipment coordinator for the United States Men's National Soccer Team. He'll be joining U.S. stars like Landon Donovan and Brian McBride and head coach Bruce Arena on the pitch in Germany. The U.S. team kicks off their first World Cup contest on June 12 versus the Czech Republic in Gelsenkirchen, Germany. |
