Hello, class of 2000! It is with great sadness in my heart that I bring you this first update. Bahair “Bear” Ghazi wrote to let me know that our classmate, Josh Rehm, was the victim in a fatal car accident. Bear wrote that “Rehmmy” started UVM with our class but didn't graduate till much later because he was pursuing a career as a professional open wheel racecar driver. He was a prodigy, successful from his first race becoming friends with champions, and ending his life as one. His time at UVM was long and he loved every minute. He was genuine and true, and he was the link that connected many groups of close friends spanning from the class of 1999 through the class of 2004. He was loved dearly. “We loved the UVM we knew with you, Josh, from your friends, Gates, Brad, Marsh, Davide, Bear, Steve, Brandon, Erika, Aida, Kirk, Adam, Jaime, Jess, Toomey, The Meatheads, Kat, Alison Eddelstein, Alison D’Elia, Philbert, Brian, and Matt.” Check out www.joshrehm.com and remember the fun. Thank you, Bear, for the heartfelt update. We all share this loss and send our support to all of Josh’s friends. It doesn’t seem quite right to continue on with the usual updates, but I appreciate the many that were sent and I am sure Josh would want our updates to continue. Athena Moutsioulis Bevan wrote that she is happy to announce that she married Carter Bevan ’01 on October 1, 2005 in a traditional Greek Orthodox service. The reception was at historic Wentworth by the Sea in New Castle, N.H. Hattie Arsenault was a bridal attendant and Jon Bevan, Carter's brother, was best man. Other alums who helped the happy duo celebrate that weekend included Dave Tepper, Leslie Pippen, Greg Tosi, Tim Falso, Kevin Dente, Andy Bartlett and Ariel Crohn. After a two-week honeymoon in Hawaii, they have settled in Manchester, N.H. In other wedding news, Leslie Wood married Corrine Vann on October 1, 2005, in Birmingham, Ala., which is their hometown and where they live. Groomsmen were Ian Armstrong and Joe Beauparlant, and Kate Anderson, Leigh Ault Copozzi, Ali Bicknell Chapin, Gabe Chapin, Sarah Scruggs, Greg Olson, and Emily Kennedy, all from the class of 2000, were also in attendance. Leslie’s new wife, Corinne, attended the University of Georgia, where she ran track. Christopher Eaton and Meagan Thwaites were married on August 6, 2005, in Las Vegas. They had a small wedding and reception at Mandalay Bay Resort with more than 50 close friends and family in attendance. Katie Baltus was a member of the wedding party. Chris and Meagan currently own a home in St. Paul, Minn., where they live with their “family,” including several cats and a Bernese Mountain dog named Ruby. Meagan graduated from law school last January, and she took the Bar exam last February, and Chris just learned that he was accepted into the University of Minnesota Veterinary School. He will start this fall. Congratulations to both of you! Elisabeth Jannicky wrote in, and she hopes others will, too. She noted that there are so many people from the class of 2000 that she hasn't heard from. Elisabeth started her first year at UVM College of Medicine last August and she was happy as a clam as she approached the second semester. There are lots of great people in her class, and she loves being back at UVM. Kathryn Wollan was promoted from architectural historian to associate at the Architectural Resources Group in San Francisco. She specializes in survey, research, and documentation of historic structures throughout the Los Angeles area. Congratulations, Kathryn, on this prestigious career milestone. Meagan Thwaites told me that Katie Baltus is living in Anchorage, Alaska, where she is an environmental engineer with an environmental consulting group. And finally, here is an update on the 295 Maple Street crew: Steve O’Brien graduated from Penn Law School, and he is now an attorney in Manhattan. Brad Gemelli will finish his MBA at NYU in May. Brandon Kauffman is in investment banking in Manhattan. Bahair (“Bear”) Ghazi graduated from medical school and is now a surgery resident at Emory University. Phillip Choinierre is playing hockey in Europe, and David Colleti is in sales in Boston. As always, I am so thankful to all of you for the updates. Please keep them coming. Lets all remember to take a moment to reflect on the life of our fallen classmate and be thankful for the times that we shared with him at UVM. Please note my updated contact information. Everything has changed.
