MARCHING ON MAIN

The university welcomed the Class of 2013 with the annual convocation ceremony on August 30. Keynote speaker was Tracy Kidder, the Pulitzer Prize winning author whose book Mountains Beyond Mountains was required summer reading for first-year students. After the event in Patrick Gym, the class marched down Main Street to the UVM Green and the candlelight induction. The incoming first-year students are one of the brightest classes to enroll at UVM; 29 percent were among the top 10 percent of their graduating high school class and 66 percent were among the top 25 percent. They are also the most diverse class in school history with 313 ALANA students among the 2,620 new students.
