2004 Outstanding Young Alumni Award

Beth McDermott '94, has given exemplary service to UVM since her student days.  Having served as Student Government Association president, she continued her UVM involvement as an alumna over the past 10 years.  Since 1995, Beth has served on the Young Alumni Committee for fundraising.  She has been co-chair since 1999.  Beth has also been co-chair of the class of 1994 gift committee for her 5th reunion as well as her 10th reunion this year.  She also has been actively involved in the Alumni Career Network in Boston, volunteering as a panelist at the annual networking gathering.  She continues in a leadership role in her class, currently serving as vice president, and she has personally encouraged others to support the University financially as well as to get involved as volunteers. 


Alexander Wilcox '94, began his strong commitment to the University of Vermont when he was a student.  Having served as Student Government Association president, he continued his service to UVM after he graduated.  Alex currently serves as Jet Blue's director of western region customer services.  Through his position at Jet Blue, he created an innovative collaboration with UVM to support UVM's partnership with Christopher Columbus High School in the Bronx by offering free Jet Blue flights to Christopher Columbus students who are interested in attending UVM along with their parents, resulting in more than 50 Christopher Columbus students applying to UVM for fall 2004.  The Jet Blue has played a big part in the partnership between UVM and Christopher Columbus High School, and UVM was selected to receive the 2004 New England Board of Higher Education's Excellence Award.
